The American Humanist Association conducted a congressional hearing today to raise support for humanist military chaplains.
David Niose, legal director at the American Humanist Association says this is just the beginning of a movement to allow more secular leaders in the military.
Jason Torpy, president of the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers and board treasurer of the American Humanist Association, said “We need a chaplaincy that is willing and able to support nontheistic belief.”
Humanism is a philosophy that stresses the importance of power of the human race and supports evidence-based thinking rather than doctrine or faith.
