The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently released a video which guides children on how they should react when exposed to pornography.
It is a well-known fact that the popularity of the Internet has made communication and exposure easier. This has definitely had a major effect on the social wellness of people, especially the youth. With the advantages which the internet brought along, it also dragged a few disadvantages of its own, like pornography. When one can easily consume pornography through a digital device like a tablet, smartphone, or computer, there is a fall in the physical, emotional and mental well-being. In addition to this, exposure to pornography also jeopardizes the safety of the younger generation.
Jill Manning, who specializes in family and marital therapy, elaborated more on pornography. She said that pornography is in fact among the fast evolving factors of addiction. She says pornography is responsible for putting healthy youth development at risk as well as shaking the very foundation of steady marriages.
According to an LDS Family Services counseling manager, Ben Erwin, pornography stands to be among the most damaging elements in the society. Pornography is all about stuffing the minds of people with unambiguous images which offer an unreal understanding of sexual intimacy. At the same time, these images are destructive because they end up developing long term addictive and obsessive behavioral patterns in people to seek extreme kinds of stimulation.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently released a video which guides children on how they should react when exposed to pornography. This unusual video can be found an the official website of the Church, OvercomingPornography.org as well as on YouTube.
The video begins with a montage of children and audio saying the body is gift from God and that it should be kept safe, using an analogy of the ocean to illustrate the point in a way children could easily understand. It then goes on to say another danger in the world is pornography. A boy gives a simple explanation of pornography saying it means “bad pictures of people with little or no clothes on.” The video goes on to describe the feelings pornography creates, and how the mind reacts to it. They give three ways to keep safe from pornography to keep from getting “lured in.” It encourages children to talk to their parents and God about what they’ve seen.

There is hope that the newly released video by the Church will help in educating children and creating awareness about pornography so that they are mentally prepared to deal with it upon exposure. This was stated by Lee Gibbons, who was an active participant in the production of the video. Gibbons is also of the view that such tools have become extremely important for developing healthy minds in today’s age.
The production team behind the video used a simple definition to explain pornography to children. They hope that more extensive discussions will take place between parents and children after they watch the video.
