Second Amendment: You Have the Right to Own Fighter Jets and Tanks says David Barton

The Second Amendment gives average citizens the right to own any weapon the government has

Steven Crowder, the right-wing comedian, conducted a “masterclass” with David Barton, the Religious Right pseudo-historian. The purpose was to understand the meaning of the Second Amendment. David Barton says the Second Amendment gives average citizens the right to own any weapon the government has.[/tweetit]

Barton has made it clear that he believes that the Founding Fathers intended for there to be no limits on the Second Amendment. This means that citizens are entitled to own any weapon to fight a foreign invasion or domestic threats. He has included tanks and fighter jets to weapons that he believes that citizens should be allowed to own.

Barton elaborated by saying that the Second Amendment gives Americans the right to defend themselves. When the Second Amendment was written, the biggest weapon at the time was a cannon. A citizen of the United States is allowed to own a cannon. Barton went on to say that whatever the government has, you should also have because the citizens may have to fight the government one day. He said that while he hopes that never happens, citizens need to have the ability to defend themselves from anything that comes after them whether it’s domestic or foreign, a gang, government “a crazy uncle.” For the Founding Fathers, there wasn’t any limitation to what you could use and couldn’t use or how you could defend yourself.

Barton says that the Founding Fathers wouldn’t have been okay with someone setting off a cannon close to a town. The purpose is for Americans to have the ability to defend themselves from all threats.
