These are some of the faith-based TV shows set to premiere this Spring.

It’s been over ten years since the airing of the last episode of Joan of Arcadia, the series which featured God appearing (in human form) in a teen’s life as an answer to a prayer to help her brother recover from a car accident.

It’s been even longer since popular faith-based shows Highway to Heaven and Touched by an Angel were regulars on the television schedule.

However, several major networks are introducing new Christian content to the primetime schedule this spring.[/tweetit]

ABC offers The Gospel of Kevin, starring Jason Ritter (who played the brother who was injured in the car accident in Joan of Arcadia) as a man “down-on-his-luck who’s tasked by God with a mission to save the world.” The series was created by the same folks who brought Agent Carter to the screen.

Living Biblically is a comedy based on the best-selling book The Year of Living Biblically: One Man’s Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible, by A.J. Jacobs. While described by CBS as a faith-based series, critics wonder how the television spin-off of the book by a self-described “agnostic Jew” will compare to other shows in the genre. Ian Gomez will star in the show, playing a man who decides to live life according to the Bible.

Finally, NBC offers For God and Country, starring Mike Vogel (The Case for Christ) and Anne Heche. The show is described as a “heart-pounding look into the complex world of the country’s bravest military heroes who make personal sacrifices while executing the most challenging and dangerous missions behind enemy lines.”

Heche plays the head of operations for the Defense Intelligence Agency, while Vogel’s character commands the ISA-special operations group tasked with rescuing a kidnapped American doctor.

While all three shows appear to target the Christian viewing audience, they all approach from a different angle. It remains to be seen if any of them while strike a chord loud enough to stick around in the bloated entertainment offerings of 2017.
