Old Jerusalem recreated in Utah
The LDS Church is producing a brand new video series based on Book of Mormon stories. 75 crew members, technical experts and six directors are presently filming the project in Utah. Filming began in June close to the Church's own Jerusalem movie set. It is anticipated the full project will take about six years to complete.

The Jerusalem movie set is in Goshen, Utah. Filming for 2017 will take about 35 days. A lion's chunk of the filming will get completed by the end of this month. Leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hope the visual library will assist people to comprehend the teachings printed in the book and bring them closer to God.

The ancient Jerusalem city is recreated in a huge multi-level set built near the Elberta and Goshen agricultural towns. The effort itself comprises a sequel to a three-year long project, The Life of Jesus Christ Bible Videos financed by the church. The Life of Jesus Christ began in 2011. Production crews went back to the Jerusalem City that was used before on the studio lot. Film makers refer to the set as “Goshen Campus” or the “South Campus.”

The city set copies ancient Jerusalem as much as possible. There are passageways, alleys and plenty of arches. Rooms are decorated to reflect the era the film was based upon. The set represented Jerusalem at the time of 600 B.C. The date is important as it was at that time the Book of Mormon mentions Nephi and his father Lehi. The tale speaks about their experiences when they escaped from Jerusalem to “promised land”. This land is believed to lie in the Western Hemisphere.

The first portion of filming will be done on the events and tales as described from Chapter 1 to Chapter 18 of the 1st Nephi book. The production time was initially thought to last 15 days, but later extended to about 30 days. The series will be released in the fall of 2018. Subsequent filming will portray the other tales associated with Book of Mormon.

Quorum of the Seventy member, Elder LeGrand R. Curtis Jr. said the video series is for one’s study, “it can’t be a substitute for reading the Book of Mormon.”
