Patriarch Kirill says these devices enable a few to control all of the world.
Patriarch Kirill, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, said the data collation capacity of modern devices like smartphones could be bringing mankind closer to the probable Antichrist arrival in an interview on a state controlled television channel. The Russian Orthodox chief clarified the church was not against technological progress but exhibited concern that a person may know exactly the location of other people, their fears and interests. The Patriarch said such information can be misused to take control of the world as we know it.
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church cautioned mobile addicts against the worldwide presence of gadgets and expressed fears these machines will serve as the stepping stone to gain control over humans on a global scale.
For the casual IT observer, the observation by the patriarch may not be far off the mark. This is the time of fake news and a time when the notion of privacy has dissolved all over the world. Companies like Cambridge Analytica have invented methods to predict the behavior of the masses and channeling it to meet their own narrow ends. This is a time when smartphones are just a pocket away. The border between reality and fantasy, however, gets crossed when the Russian Orthodox Church chief referred to an Antichrist figure taking over the world.
Patriarch Kirill has clearly updated the long-held myths to meet the requirements of the modern era. Gone is the narration of the leviathan coming out of the sea, with seven heads and ten horns. Now the thing to be frightened of is the omniscient supercomputer. He repeatedly reminded the audience every time they use their gadgets, someone somewhere knows their location and what they are doing. This sounds just like a god.
Always appreciated Patriarch Kirill-thanks for the heads up! Can never have enough warning on antichrist activity. Anyone know his twitter handle? He seems more like a Facebook guy though. BBC News – Smartphone users warned to be careful of the Antichrist https://t.co/rGOijGrN2w

I think that Patriarch Kirill has a point: " The Antichrist is the person who will be at the head of the worldwide web, controlling all of humankind."

Patriarch Kirill did not stop at that. He said within a short period of time, the technology that is being developed will not only offer access to all information but also permit the use of such information. It is clear that all the power of the world will be concentrated in the hands of the few. Such level of control comes before the arrival of the Antichrist.
The Russians have another take on this matter. They said President Vladimir Putin and Patriarch Kirill are close and such statements lend many government policies to acquire divine authority.
