Crocodile Kills Pastor During Baptism

The Bizarre Death Happened In Ethiopia

Crocodiles are one of nature’s perfect killing machines. An apex predator that has not needed to evolve for 100 million years. Yesterday they claimed another victim, at one of the most bizarrely timed animal attacks in recent memory.

Pastor Docho Eshete was beginning a mass baptism of around 80 members of his congregation. He had just begun the ceremony when a crocodile leaped out of the water and attacked him. A tug of war started between the animal and the congregation. Using fishing nets, the Protestants were able to recover the body of Pastor Docho but it was too late to save his life.

The baptism took place at Lake Abaya, Ethiopia, an area known for having a large population of crocodiles. The species is guessed to be the Nile Crocodile, a particularly aggressive species known for attacking at least 300 humans every year in Africa.

This could be one of the first deadly animal attacks during a religious ceremony. It is unclear why a risky location was chosen. The crocodile escaped from capture.
