BRUSSELS / PARIS – September 11, 2026 – In light of recent public discussions concerning the visit of a delegation from the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Sanatana Dharma Europe issues this official statement to provide clarity regarding our tradition and its foundational principles.

Sanatana Dharma is an ancient, vast, and pluralistic spiritual heritage.

It encompasses a wide spectrum of traditions (Sampradayas), philosophies, and monastic lineages. Consequently, the specific internal customs, monastic vows, or operational requests of any single organization do not reflect nor define Sanatana Dharma as a whole.

While Sanatana Dharma Europe upholds religious freedom and respects the administrative autonomy of individual organizations, we firmly maintain that spiritual practices must never result in the marginalization, restriction, or exclusion of women in public life.

We acknowledge the extensive cultural and social contributions made by BAPS globally. However, constructive leadership requires distinguishing between genuine community service and public practices that conflict with the fundamental principles of human rights, equal dignity, and civic integration across European society.

Within authentic Sanatana Dharma, the Divine Feminine (Shakti) is venerated as the primary force of creation, wisdom, and strength. Women have historically served, and continue to serve today as respected spiritual teachers (Gurus), scholars, and community leaders.

Gender equality and mutual respect are not foreign adaptations; they are deeply embedded in our sacred heritage.

Sanatana Dharma Europe remains committed to representing the European Hindu community with dignity, intellectual rigor, and unwavering allegiance to universal human values. We will continue to collaborate with European and international institutions to foster genuine interreligious dialogue, social harmony, and the full, equal participation of all individuals.
