One of the Most Prominent Christian Teams Were First to Mention God

The Philadelphia Eagles upset the New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl LII. While some have argued that it was the effectiveness of their passing game, the lack of any real Patriot defense, some questionable touchdown calls, and a myriad of other factors, most of the Eagle players made it clear there was one huge factor:

God.

Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles, who incredibly started the season as a backup quarterback gave a shout-out “to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for giving me this opportunity.”

This is no surprise as Nick Foles has talked about his faith constantly. He has stated that he plans to become a pastor after his football career is over. He is currently attending Liberty University for a master’s degree in divinity studies.

Foles was not the only player to talk about his faith. Another incredible story is head coach Doug Pederson. When asked how he feels about winning the Super Bowl when he was coaching high school football nine years ago he thanked Jesus and God for giving him the opportunity.

Eagles tight end Zach Ertz and punter Donnie Jones also thanked god, with Jones stating that “all of our blessings come from him.” Even footage of nuns rooting for the Eagles has become a trending story on social media.

The safety, Malcolm Jenkins, stated the shared religious faith of the team brought them stronger together in a way he had not seen before. He mentioned that three members of the team were baptized at the team facility and that gave them the humility and strength of purpose to be able to defeat the heavily favored New England Patriots.

This is the first Vince Lombardi Trophy for the Philadelphia Eagles.
