National Back to Church Sunday® movement urges churchgoers and non-churchgoers alike to join in and worship with their community this Sunday, September 21.
Back to Church Sunday is a national event that encourages churchgoers to attend church and invite non-churchgoers to come along with them. According to a study from LifeWay Research, one of the event’s sponsors, 83% of the unchurched would attend if they were invited, yet only 2% of Christians extend an invitation.
This is the sixth annual event. Over 3.3 million people are expected to be in attendance, which is roughly the population of Iowa. Churches who have participated in the past report a 31% increase in attendence on this day.
Some organizations are using a video of a rapping Pastor to entice people to get back to church. They’re hoping to reach an audience who was raised in the church, but haven’t continued to make it a part of their ongoing lives.
The Back to Church Sunday website offers kits, videos, postcards, banners, and more for purchase to host your own Back to Church Sunday in your community. A free digital planning guide is also available for churches who sign up to participate.
