Pope Francis Went Above and Beyond to Give Child Cured of Leukemia His Dream

12-year-old Peter Lombardi wanted a kiss. Born with Down Syndrome, in 2015 he was diagnosed with Leukemia. Things looked bleak.

The Make-A-Wish foundation came and asked what dream they could help him fulfill. Peter pointed to the television and said he wanted a kiss from the man on the TV in front of a cheering audience. That man was Pope Francis.

While the foundation was unable to grant that wish (instead he was able to battle Darth Vader with a lightsaber), the family was able to make the wish come true on their own. Celebrating Peter’s defeat of Leukemia, the family came to the Vatican for a multiple week vacation.

While the family was watching the Pope doing the General Audience blessing in St. Peter’s Square, Peter was finally able to get a kiss and blessing from Pope Francis. Not only that, the Pope gave Peter a ride in the Pope Mobile around the Square and gave him a crown made of balloons as was requested by the boy.

The family was beyond ecstatic saying they would have been happy just to have seen the Pope.

Pope Francis has a history of having a deeply personal and meaningful connection with individuals in public settings.
