New show challenges viewers to decide if the main character is receiving messages from a higher power or symptoms of a mental condition.
Ron Perlman is well-known for his role on FX’s runaway hit Sons of Anarchy, and if Amazon Prime customer reviews of its new show Hand of God are any indication, he might hooked up with another award winner, says The Hollywood Reporter.

In the new show due out on September 4, Perlman plays a crooked judge who is married to a character played by Dana Delaney. Perlman has a breakdown after his son, who was forced to watch the rape of his wife, shoots himself in the head.
His son’s suicide attempt is unsuccessful. Instead, he lands in a coma and is kept alive by a ventilator. Perlman believes that God is speaking to him through his son, urging him to find his daughter-in-law’s rapist by any means necessary, reports the USA Today.
Hand of God will only be available to Amazon Prime subscribers. It is directed by Marc Foster (World War Z) and written by Ben Watkins (Burn Notice).

Judge Pernell Harris (played by Perlman) is a hard-living, rule-bending official of the court who visits call girls and uses felons to his advantage. After his mental breakdown, he both receives messages from his son and sees visions which encourage him to seek revenge as a vigilante.
Viewers will certainly tune in to see if the judge finds the rapist, but will also be challenged to decide if the messages he receives and visions he sees are truly from a higher power, or simply symptoms of his mental condition.
