TST has decided to take this route because of what Greaves claims is copyright infringement. He claims the statue of Baphomet in the hall of the school depcited in the show is a copy of TST’s deity.

This new incarnation of “Sabrina” isn’t anything like its predecessor. It takes on a darker satanic tone. Reviewers have praised the show. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been well received by critics around the world. It has even scored an impressive 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Lucien Greaves has said TST doesn’t want any monetary compensation. All they want is for the prop to be removed from the show. Lucien Greaves is adamant about removing the statue because he doesn’t want their monument to be used in this way. He doesn’t want people associating their monument with the show. He says this because the values in the show and his organization’s values are different.

TST might have a case because co-founder Malcolm Jarry explained they hold copyright filed with the Library of Congress. This copyright protects statues and their representations. In a similar case, the United States Postal Service had to pay a large fine because of their unauthorized use of the Statue of Liberty on a postage stamp.

Lisa Soper, the production designer of Sabrina, defended the show’s representation of Baphomet in an interview which was conducted before TST’s allegations. She said the representation of Baphomet in the show is a coincidence. She further explained by saying when you look at Baphomet, there are only a couple of statues of him. She then said they have their statue and the show has their own.

She elaborated by bringing Goya paintings, tarot cards, and Alistair Crowley iterations into her explanation. Soper says Baphomet is always seen in the hundreds of iterations of him with his people around him and is perceived as a father figure. Soper then finished by saying depicting Baphomet’s children with him and similar elements are all the same.

TST looks like they have a case, but they have a long road ahead of them.
