Over 20 mosques participated in the event

Islamic communities in Massachusetts held the second annual “Open Mosque Day” to promote a better understanding of Islam.[/tweetit] Over 20 mosques from the state participated in the event on Sunday. Visitors were given a tour that included an introduction to Islam and a chance to observe the prayer service done by Muslims.

As per Council on American-Islamic Relations, all the participating mosques opened their doors to people of different backgrounds so they could interact with their Muslim neighbors. Rabbi Michael Shire, who lives in Needham, visited a mosque with his 96-year-old mother, Ruth Shire. The Rabbi said, “We really wanted to support the idea that people should visit the mosque. This dialogue between different faiths is important.”

According to the Yusufi Vali, the executive director of the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center (ISBCC), “The real benefit of this is people get to meet real people and make their own judgements about who Muslims are.”

American Islamic Center’s Wafaa Wahabi said the event was planned to help dispel all misconceptions regarding Muslims and he hopes others see that Muslims “live, pray and dream just like anyone else."

Visitors were greeted by 8-year-old Kasim Kulovic with a rose. His father Kemal Kulovic said he teaches him “to be nice and merciful to others, to serve others, to help others, to be on his best behavior, to be the best person he can be.”
