1. Editorial purpose
WRN is a non-commercial, public-interest news and information service of the Foundation, provided for the benefit of society at large. It covers religion, belief, freedom of religion or belief, ethics, culture, society and related matters of public interest.
2. Accuracy, attribution and fairness
WRN seeks to verify material factual claims using appropriate sources, distinguish news from opinion where needed for clarity, attribute information responsibly, and correct significant errors. The fact that a statement has appeared elsewhere does not automatically establish its accuracy.
3. Opinion and contributors
Opinion, commentary and guest contributions may express the views of the identified author and do not necessarily represent the views of the Foundation or WRN. Material conflicts of interest relevant to a particular contribution should be disclosed where appropriate.
4. Corrections
Anyone may notify WRN of a suspected factual error by writing to wreligionnews@gmail.com and identifying the article, URL, statement challenged, reason for the challenge and supporting material where reasonably available.
Where WRN confirms a material factual error, it will correct the article and, where appropriate, add a visible correction or update note. Minor typographical or formatting changes that do not alter the substance may be made without a separate correction notice.
5. Spanish statutory right of rectification
Nothing in WRN’s voluntary correction procedure restricts the statutory right of rectification under Spanish Organic Law 2/1984. A natural or legal person referred to by factual information who considers it inaccurate and prejudicial may exercise that right under the conditions established by the law.
Under that law, the rectification must be sent to the director of the medium within seven calendar days following publication or dissemination, in a way that permits proof of the date and receipt. Where the statutory requirements are satisfied, the law provides for publication or dissemination of the rectification within three days following receipt, with comparable relevance and without editorial comments or additions, subject to the law’s detailed rules and remedies.
Formal notices may be sent to the Foundation at Madrid and to wreligionnews@gmail.com. A sender wishing to preserve formal evidence of transmission should use a method that records sending and receipt.
6. Updates to older digital-media reports
Article 86 of Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 provides a right, in the circumstances established by that provision, to request a sufficiently visible update notice alongside digital-media reports where later events mean that the original report no longer reflects the person’s current situation and causes prejudice. WRN will assess reasoned requests under the applicable law.
7. Archives, privacy and freedom of information
Published journalism may remain in WRN’s historical archive. Requests concerning correction, updating, privacy, de-indexing or erasure are considered individually, taking account of applicable data-protection rights, accuracy, subsequent developments, freedom of expression and information, public interest and the integrity of the archive.
