U.S. Condemns Decision to Ban Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia

Hours after Russia’s Supreme Court upholds the ban on Jehovah’s Witnesses, USCIRF condemns the decision.

Today, the Russia Supreme Court denied the appeal to overturn the ban on Jehovah’s Witnesses in the country.

The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) in its April 2017 report marked Russia as a “country of particular concern.” USCIRF Chairman Daniel Mark today said, “This latest move by the Russian government confirms that our 2017 Annual Report recommendation is well-deserved. The Russian government is intensifying its crackdown on religious freedom at home while also extending its repressive policies to neighboring states.”
