Trump went on to put the responsibility to fight Islamophobia into the hands of American Muslims.
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump believes to combat Islamophobia Muslims will themselves have to police each other. This was how Trump responded to a question asked by a Muslim audience member at Sunday night’s second presidential debate. Trump is highly criticized for his rhetoric against Muslims. However, during this speech, he acknowledged, Islamophobia is a problem. He was quickly criticized for being a hypocrite because of his past promise to ban all Muslims from entering the U.S.
During the presidential debate on October 9, one of the audience members, a Muslim, asked Trump “How will you help people like me deal with the consequences of being labeled as a threat to the country after the election is over?” Trump responded by accepting the reality of Islamophobia calling it a “shame.” However, he went back to his traditional stance of believing all Muslims are to be blamed for terrorism and Muslims must stop keeping secrets about each other.
Trump went on to put the responsibility to fight Islamophobia into the hands of American Muslims. He said “When they see hatred going on, they have to report it.” Trump insisted Islamophobia is the fault of Muslims themselves.

Trump used the debate to claim, if he was president during the Iraq war, the war would never have happened and Captain Humayun Khan would still be alive. He accused the democratic nominee Hillary Clinton as one of the person’s responsible for the war.
Critics pointed out it was Trump himself who called for tough laws against Muslim immigrants and his statement regarding the war cannot be taken seriously. Clinton, in a tweet, quoted Trump’s words on Islamophobia, adding these words were spoken by the same person “who proposed a ban on Muslim immigrants to the U.S.”

Trump's not attacking muslims, he's attacking Radical Islamic Terrorism. Hillary won't defeat ISIS, she's the 1 who armed ISIS with weapons pic.twitter.com/2hYEFzMIaM

Trump has been traditionally known for his anti-Muslim views. He is popular with Americans who have a strong hatred towards Muslims and non-white groups. In this situation, his comments about how Muslims are themselves to be blamed for the rise in Islamophobia, only accentuates his stand on the issue.
Christina Wilkie, National Political Reporter at The Huffington Post was quick to point out on Twitter Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims is still posted on his website.
