The US President’s comments on the recent UK terror attacks draws ire from various quarters

It is the duty of a leader to restore calm among the people during turbulent times. However, U.S. President, Donald Trump is not your average leader. Trump has once again courted controversy with his unfiltered comments about the recent terror attack in London, UK.[/tweetit]

Trump used the event to highlight the benefits of his controversial travel ban policy.

Even before details concerning the attack were published, Trump had already begun publicizing the event as a “terror attack.” He also published a second tweet stating that America needed to be “smart, vigilant and tough” and even requested U.S. Courts to consider his travel ban seriously.

Though the U.S. President followed everything up with a word of support for the United Kingdom and Prime Minister, Theresa May, the unfiltered comments didn’t stop even the day after.

This time, Trump took a dig at London’s Mayor, Sadiq Khan. In the tweet, Trump alleges that the Mayor requested Londoners to not be alarmed despite the attacks.

However, it was found that Trump had quoted Khan out of context. Khan was only referring to the heightened police presence in London when he requested citizens to not panic.

The heated war of words continued into the early hours of the current week. Trump defended his earlier tweet by claiming Khan was only giving a “pathetic excuse.” In response, Khan dismissed the comments saying he hasn’t “got the time to respond to tweets from Donald Trump."

On being asked whether Trump’s impending visit to the UK should be called off, Khan replied, "I don't think we should roll out the red carpet to the President of the USA in the circumstances where his policies go against everything we stand for."

Khan went on to add that in a special relationship, you need to call out your friends even when they are wrong, implying that it was wrong on Trump’s part to share such views.

Khan has been against Trump’s visit to the UK from the very start and he continues to maintain that view. The London Mayor was especially vocal against the U.S. President’s ban on travel from Muslim-majority countries to the U.S., even going as far as to call it a “shameful” and “cruel” policy.

Trump has also come under attack from the media for his unverified comments on the London Attack.
