Last year, he was going through a difficult phase in his life. During one of those summer days, he had a dream about a song. As soon as he woke up, he wrote down the lyrics, as much as he could remember.
@blakeshelton Saviors Shadow was released at the perfect time. Brought tears to my eyes. "My sweet Jesus won't forsake me." ❤❤

According to Jessi Alexander, one of the songwriters who co-wrote “Savior's Shadow,” the song came from the deepest part of Shelton's soul. Jon Randall is the other songwriter who helped Shelton pen “Savior's Shadow.” Randall and Alexander also provided harmony for the tune.
Jessi Alexander calls the song “simply beautiful and moving.” According to her, “Savior's Shadow” is Shelton's version of “Why Me Lord,” the hugely popular Kris Kristofferson song.
“Savior's Shadow” talks about how the devil tried to break him, however, Jesus refused to forsake him. The album, If I'm Honest, will be released on May 20, 2016. It will be Shelton's 12th studio album. He has already tagged the album as an extremely personal one for him.
Shelton’s girlfriend, Gwen Stefani‘s latest album This Is What the Truth Feels Like is a faith-related and very personal release as well.
