Dya Singh recounts the interfaith Melbourne International Peace Day event hosted by the Church of Scientology.

The United Nations celebrates International Peace Day annually on September 21. The U.N. General Assembly has declared this day dedicated to bolstering and reinforcing the ideals of peace, both within and across all nations and people. Each year a theme is selected upon which the celebrations are based. This year’s theme was “Partnership for Peace – Dignity for All.” The thought aimed to highlight the significance of each and every segment of the society to join hands and work together to seek peace.

The International Day of Peace was established in the year 1981, and the first Peace Day was celebrated in September 1982. The initiatives of the U.N. would have not been successful without the continuous support and initial partnerships that were present during its creation and all the additional partnerships between various governments, faith-groups, private sectors, and NGOs each year.

Of the many organizations that arrange for events and activities to mark the special day, two Melbourne-based organizations COMMON (Centre of Melbourne Multifaith & Others Network) and WIN (Women's Interfaith Network) organized an event at the Church of Scientology in Melbourne. Even though there are people of various religions and nationalities, and even some celebrities who have taken to the path of Scientology as a religion, there are still a lot of questions about the faith that shrouds its very existence. By hosting this year’s World Peace Day event many people from various faiths were able to experience its ideals and thoughts.

Dya Singh, a Sikh singer and composer, shared his experience at the event hosted by the Church of Scientology on SikhChic.com. He said it was the most efficiently run religious/spiritual event he had ever seen in Melbourne. The entire building, in which the organization is placed, is extremely well thought out and very modern. The Church had areas where one could watch videos of the various activities of the organization and learn more about the founder L. Ron Hubbard. The Church offers courses on happiness, self-confidence, harmony, children’s grooming, family values and many others that people could really benefit from. He even saw youngsters participating in these courses and volunteering events at the Church, which impressed him.
