Scalia’s Funeral Held at Largest North American Catholic Church

Justice Scalia’s funeral will be held this weekend and Glenn Beck makes an interesting comment about his death.

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception will host funeral mass for Antonin Scalia, a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. The event is scheduled to be held on February 20. Scalia’s body will be kept in repose at Supreme Court a day prior to the funeral. The tradition of draping his court bench and chair in black wool crepe will be followed.

President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama-the first lady- will pay respects at the Supreme Court on February 19 but will not attend the funeral on Saturday. The Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, will be in attendance during the funeral. Scalia, who was 79 years old before his death, died at a Texas ranch, ending an almost 30-year stint on the hallowed grounds of the Supreme Court. He went to the ranch with his friends to do a hunt.

Funeral details await release but it can be safely said that there will probably be a standard Catholic funeral at the basilica. This is because the Justice regularly gave his attendance to a Virginia Church due to Scalia preferring its mass read out in Latin. Incidentally, the basilica was the venue of Pope Francis celebrating Mass in September. The pontiff visited the U.S. during that period.

Glenn Beck, a radio host known for his conservative views and an open Cruz supporter, said that he believes that God took Justice Scalia away so that Americans would be encouraged to give their voting support to Ted Cruz. To prove his point, he even assumed a godlike voice to give an explanation to listeners that Scalia’s death exhorted conservatives to wake up to the new reality.

Pat Gray, the co-host of Beck, wondered on air about the reason why God preferred to take Scalia at this time. This was the cue for Beck, who called into the show from a Boston church and said that he may have the answer to this question. The latter then took up God’s voice and told listeners that God has woken the American people and pointed out that their liberties are being lost. He went further on to add that the American constitution is in an extremely precarious state. The sole way to survive is to elect a president who is a true constitutionalist. That person, according to him, is Ted Cruz.
