Warner Bros. settles Satanic Temple’s lawsuit regarding Netflix TV show
Warner Bros. has issued a statement declaring they have settled the lawsuit with The Satanic Temple. The lawsuit was about a statue appearing on the Netflix TV show The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
In the lawsuit, The Satanic Temple sued Netflix and Warner Bros for $50 million. According to The Satanic Temple, the statue in the TV show was the same as “Baphomet with Children,” a divine figure with a goat head. They were unhappy the show implied the statue was a figure of evil. Warner Bros. didn’t comment about the terms and conditions of the settlement. Satanic Temple stated that the settlement is in the final stages.
Baphomet with Children is a winged figure which is half goat and half man. According to the group, there were four episodes where the figure made several appearances. The group spent $100,000 to build this figure to display next to Oklahoma City’s Ten Commandments statue.
When Lisa Soper, the show’s production designer, was questioned she stated the resemblance between both the statues was by chance.
Lucien Greaves, the leader of The Satanic Temple, stated the TV show would give credits to The Satanic Temple for various aspects of their statue. He announced both parties agreed to resolve the issue amicably.
According to Greaves, the group got support from several people regarding their claim. At the same time, the group also received large volumes of hate mail, along with analysis of the case. In the statement made by Warner Bros. and Netflix there was no disclosure about any financial compensation.
The group went on Twitter to express their opinion regarding how the show portrayed their statue. Also, Greaves was surprised by the discrimination they faced due to the lawsuit. He stated there was a clear reason why the group decided to go ahead with their decision. He continued that people wouldn’t like it if a show depicted an actual mosque as a terrorist organization’s HQ.
The roots of Baphomet go back to the 12th century, when the Knights Templar, a Catholic military group, was around.

The group explained the difference between the TV show and how they depicted Satan was completely different. According to The Satanic Temple, Satan was an individual who rebelled against the authority of God.
