Muslims Celebrate the ‘Night of Power’: Laylat Al-Qadr

Islam’s Laylat Al-Qadr traditions

Laylat Al-Qadr is often known as the Night of Power as it is considered as the most precious night in Islamic faith. The Ramadan is the holy month and Muslims all over the world observe this month through discipline, worship, making peace, praying and living in the most holy ways by maintaining high morality.

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims observe it by fasting during the day hours and they seek repentance and try to establish a more defined relationship with Allah. Muslims pray and fast during this month in order to ask for forgiveness and give thanks to God because of his blessings as enshrined in the Qur’an. The last 10 days of Ramadan Holy month are observed with more and more prayers to Allah and Muslims all over the world eagerly a waits for one special night in a year popularly known as the night of power.

The Night of Power is the most highly recognized night among Muslims since it marks the night which the Holy Qur’an was first disclosed to Prophet Muhammad.  It is regarded as the most precious night in history as written in the Quran and it says that; “Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Power. And what can make you know what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.” (97:1-5).

The night of prayers is of great significance to Muslims and they spend a lot of time praying and they keep reading the Qur’an believing that God will hear them from heaven and either forgive their sins or satisfy all their heart desires. They go to devotion with sincere hearts believing that everything that they pray will come to pass. All Muslims seek spiritual guidance and they believe that during this night, they are all surrounded by angels and the gates of heaven are open ready with Gods’ blessings and mercy.

As enshrined in the Qur’an, it is Allah himself who put this night as the most powerful night in history and it’s better than one thousand months. Therefore, Muslims believe the Qur’an teachings and they observe this night as the most important and merciful nights of all the time. In summary, Laylat Al-Qadr is observed as the most precious night because of the revelation of Qur’an and also the night of forgiveness of all the sins which is better than one thousand months.
