Mark Wahlberg, a Roman Catholic by religion and a film star in Hollywood by profession, has admitted to making poor choices in his life. The actor stood next to Cardinal Blase Cupich on October 20 in Chicago at the UIC Pavilion. He answered a number of questions put forward to him by the media. Wahlberg, as in previous interviews, readily admitted that he has a troubled adolescence. His troubled childhood saw him spending prison time after he made a racial assault on one Vietnamese immigrant. His confessions were made to convince Chicago youths entangled in violent crime to turn around their lives like he did with assistance from the Catholic Church.

Wahlberg said that it is a different matter to simply start a few programs or donate money to the cause. He said that there should be a person available who will talk to the youths and has a similar background. This will help them turn their lives for the better. This positive development, he said, is extremely important. The actor in 2015 met Pope Francis and has openly come out to support gay marriage. Wahlberg reiterated that he had not discussed the latter with Cupich. The latter, although much more liberal than his predecessor, fully supports the stance taken by the church that marriage can only occur between a woman and a man

The two were joined by a large crowd of approximately 1,000 worshipers where both Wahlberg and Cupich were interviewed on-stage. The latter informed the audience that he finds the time to pray to God every morning and retiring to bed around 7:30 pm at night. The audience laughed when he informed them that this time was much past his own imposed bedtime.

Cardinal Cupich said that it is important for young people to celebrate and also discuss their faith. He continued on to say the church and the world need the youth's commitment, energy, and honesty. The church needs more as there are external pressures jeopardizing the national unity. The global challenges must also be addressed.
