The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has updated their website from www.overcomingpornography.org to www.lds.org/addressing-pornography. The updates on this new website are aiming to heal and protect church members who view pornography.

On the website, there is a video with Russell M. Nelson, the church’s president, where he states, “We are mortals; we all make mistakes.” According to him, human beings can work towards becoming God’s children, by letting the Lord know of their pure intentions.

There are other videos with commentary from President Dallin H. Oaks, of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles members – Elder Ronald A. Rasband, Elder David A. Bednar, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, Elder D. Todd Christofferson, and President M. Russell Ballard are commentators in several videos.

In the updated website, there are several resources and videos from experts, qualified therapists, and real people. People who visit the website will get answers to many questions on pornography. The website caters to people from all walks of life, such as leaders, spouses, individuals, and parents, who want to deal with this problem. Visitors can utilize the Addiction Recovery Program along with other resources in the website.

Utah Leads the Way

When it comes to combating pornography, Utah is showing other states how to deal with this problem. Governor Gary R. Herbert signed a resolution, which declared pornography as a health hazard for the public. During a press conference in 2016, he stated that pornography continues to be a huge problem, as it uses silence and secrecy to thrive.

In 2018, Herbert continued the fight against pornography by signing House Bill 155 and Senate Concurrent Resolution 9. Under the first, it is mandatory for computer technicians to inform the officials if they come across child pornography on work computers. Failure to comply will result in a class B misdemeanor. In the second, pornography falls under a health hazard for the public, due to which, there is a need for research and education on this subject. Rep. Craig Hall and Sen. Todd Weiler were the sponsors for these bills.
