Gospel Singer Kim Burrell Calls Homosexuals “Perverts”

Kim Burrell’s appearance on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show cancelled following anti-LGBT sermon.

Popular gospel singer Kim Burrell delivered a sermon saying gay people are “perverts” and sinners. Burrell is also the founder and pastor of a non-denominational Church in Houston, the Love and Liberty Fellowship Church International. Apart from being famous for her Gospel music, she is also well-known as a preacher and religious leader.

Kim Burrell, 44, insisted that homosexuals will die this year because of their sins. She preached that homosexuality is a sin, and is caused by the spirit of perversion, confusion and delusion.

She then went on to say, “You as a man, you open your mouth and take a man’s penis in your face, you are perverted…You are a woman and will shake your face in another woman’s breast, you are perverted.”

Her statements caused a huge backlash by those who were shocked as well as enraged at her opinions, especially because she preached them so openly in a sermon. She also said that homosexuality, has “…caused us pain on the body of Christ.”

The video of her sermon surfaced just days before her scheduled performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. DeGeneres herself is openly gay. Burrell was supposed to give a performance from the Hidden Figures soundtrack in collaboration with Pharrell Williams. Williams addressed Burrell’s statements on Twitter saying, “I condemn hate speech of any kind. There is no room in this world of any kind of prejudice. My greatest hope is for inclusion and love for all humanity in 2017 and beyond.”

Following the backlash, Burrell posted two videos using Facebook live and insisted that her intention was never to create hatred towards gay people. In the first video, she claimed that she never specified ‘LGBT’ and that her focus was only sin. “To every person who is dealing with the homosexual spirit, I love you because God loves you. But God hates the sin.”

Burrell posted a follow-up video, clarifying her belief that gay people will have to “face the master,” but she “never said that all gays were going to hell.” However, she maintained that homosexuality is against nature and is a sin that God hates. For this reason, she insisted that she didn’t regret her comments.

Ellen DeGeneres confirmed on Twitter that Burrell will not be appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
