Video shows a statue of Jesus who appears to be opening his eyes.

A website for documenting paranormal activity, Adimensional, is responsible for introducing the internet to a video purportedly showing a statue of Jesus opening its eyes. The video has subsequently gone viral, eliciting sharp responses from people claiming it is a miracle and a sign from the heavens and others dubious about its authenticity and openly challenging it.

The statue in question is located in the Chapel of Saltillo in Mexico’s state of Coahuila de Zaragoza. The strange and bizarre footage of the video was captured during a church service in June 2016. In the video, it appears that the statue has its eyes wide open. However, after a few seconds have elapsed, the statue whose eyes are staring straight at the camera suddenly closes its eyes, and the man behind the camera pulls away in shock, and the one minute (and a few seconds) video ends.

As is common for unexplained phenomena, the video went viral after being posted to the paranormal activity website Adimensional, ran and managed by Ivan Escamilla, a self-proclaimed paranormal expert. The eerie footage has elicited many reactions, with some opting to believe that the video is authentic and is a miracle while others claim that it is an optical illusion or a blatant editing of the video.

Escamilla, the manager of Adimensional, believes that the video is authentic, and he does not believe that there is anything “unusual” about the video. He goes on to state that the video has been verified and is not a fabrication. According to Escamilla, more than 20 paranormal experts and priests as well as special effects designers have spent many weeks dissecting and analyzing the close to one-minute video. At the end of this laborious process of analysis, there has been no proof or suggestion that the clip had been changed or altered in any way, he claims.

However, it is interesting to note that according to the Daily Mail report, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saltillo has refused to watch the video and has dismissed it in its entirety. The dismissal, coupled with many people across the world writing off the footage as shoddy animation, will undoubtedly cause consternation and discomfort amongst many staunch believers of the authenticity of the video clip.
