Dalai Lama, exiled spiritual leader of Tibet, met Barack Obama[/tweetit], the former President of the United States in the Indian capital city of New Delhi. The 82-year-old Tibetan said the two discussed the promotion of peace within a world being torn apart by violence and strife. A photograph of the meeting was shared on Twitter by the Dalai Lama.

Dalai Lama Meets Barack Obama in India to Discuss World Peace[/tweetthis]
As per a report published by Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), the Dalai Lama expressed satisfaction about the outcome of the meeting. The CTA is the official mouthpiece of the exiled Tibetan Government. The Dalai Lama is the de-facto head of this authority. The Dalai Lama said said he has told Obama the time has come to promote oneness among the global population and said he felt sad to witness so many differences among people.
The Dalai Lama and Barack Obama are old friends, with this Delhi meeting being the sixth time they have met. Both men have won the Nobel Prize. The last the two met was at the White House when Obama was still the President of the United States, in June 2016. The Delhi meeting lasted about 45 minutes. According to Kasur Tempa Tsering, the Dalai Lama representative, the two Nobel Laureates discussed a number of topics related to world peace. The spiritual head said that Obama is young and can still achieve a lot. Both of them should go for world peace. The Dalai Lama added that his generation could not witness peace in the world, but there is a chance that Obama's generation could enjoy peace in the world before they pass away.
This meeting is of some significance as the Tibetan expressed reservations about the United States becoming increasingly nationalist and selfish after Donald J. Trump ascended the presidency. The Dalai Lama said that President Trump from his first month said “America First,” which was not nice sounding to the altruistic exiled Tibetan. He uttered the words during a conference held in October. Obama ended his India visit on a five-day long world tour where he also spent some time in France and China.
