Wilson said that Jesus spoke to him in a dream when he was 14-years-old.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is practicing abstinence with his new girlfriend, singer Ciara. Wilson, who is known for his religious beliefs and adherence to Christianity, said in a sit-down with Pastor Miles McPherson of Rock Church in San Diego that the couple decided to abstain from pre-marital sex after he received a message from God.

Wilson said that God spoke to him when Ciara was on tour, asking the star quarterback to “lead” the pop artist. According to Wilson, he and Ciara can come closer to God through abstinence although he admitted that staying abstinent isn’t easy and asked the audience to pray for the couple.

During the Q & A, Wilson admitted that he wasn’t always as devout as he is today. He began to foster his faith as he grew older. At 14, when he dreamt that his father passed away, Jesus walked into the room and told him: “I’m preparing you.” This and many other moments have, according to Wilson, shaped his faith.

In a 2013 documentary entitled The Making of a Champion, Wilson explained that he used to be a “bad kid ” and thanked God for the talent God has given him. “ No one can stop what God has for you,” he said.
