Denzel Washington Gives Thanks to God in Powerful Speech

Denzel Washington stressed the importance of having faith in God and being grateful during a speech in St. Louis.

Denzel Washington is a reputed American filmmaker and actor. He is known for his roles in Malcolm X and American Gangster. He has even gone on to win two Golden Globe awards, a Tony award, as well as two Academy Awards.

So when an award-winning actor gives a speech in front of an audience of 1,000 people about religion, people are bound to take note. Saturday, November 7, he gave a speech to thousands of people who are members of the Church of God in Christ at their Annual Holy Congregation which took place in downtown St. Louis.

Washington, whose father was a pastor for 60 years, has grown up learning the teachings of God. Denzel, his wife, and his children are still members of the Church of God in Christ and attend the West Angeles Church in Los Angeles. He said that even though he has not always been very faithful in regards to his religion, he cannot deny the role that God played in his life. Even when he was not thankful, God gave him everything and showed him the straight and true path. And this is something without which his life would have been incomplete.

At the charity banquet, he talked about how important it is to have a strong faith in God, a good attitude, and gratitude towards everything that God bestows upon us. When giving his speech, he made references to his life as well. He believes that in order to be happy and peaceful, one must be thankful and grateful for all the blessings that God showers upon us. According to him, it is not possible to be thankful and dissatisfied with life. As he said, “There’s never been a time where God didn’t direct,protect and correct me. There may have been times where I was less faithful to Him, but He had faith in me.”

In addition, he also said, “I pray that you put your slippers way under your bed at night, so that when you wake in the morning you have to start on your knees to find them. And while you’re down there, say thank you.”

During his speech, Denzel emphasized that we must give thanks to God every single day. This should be done by recognizing God’s blessings and praying to Him regularly. To conclude his speech, he said that one should always have a positive attitude if one wants to get ahead in life. In his words, a bad attitude is like a flat tire. It just ties you in one place with no option of moving forward. Unless it has not been changed, there is no possibility of progress being made.

The banquet, which served meals for $200 per plate, was organized at the Marriott St. Louis Grand Hotel in order to raise money for the denomination’s charity efforts. This meeting is one of the largest events to ever have been held at the American Center.
