Dalai Lama on Refugee Crisis and U.K.’s Reaction to Migrants: Killing Must End

The Dalai Lama Addresses the European response to the latest wave of refugees and offers a solution to future migrant problems at an Oxford event.

Dalai Lama recently spoke on the crisis involving refugees. This is being termed as the largest people’s movement in Europe from the time of the Second World War.

Dalai Lama, a religious leader, has himself been away in exile for nearly 56 years. He sent a message on peace at a time where there is a lot of uncertainty among several people. He also appreciated the responses of Austria and Germany, however warns about the implications of large waves of people entering Europe. He has said that the answer to this problem is stopping the violence taking place in areas of the Middle East.

He spoke at an Oxford event and answered questions related to Europe’s reaction to the refugee crisis. According to Dalai Lama, Austria and Germany have offered good response as far as dealing with the refugee issue is concerned. The U.K. is also beginning to show the seriousness regarding what needs to be done. However, he believes that it is not possible for everybody to go to Europe.

Finally, one needs to figure out ways to minimize the killing and deaths in their nations. The use of power and force needs to be reduced, because force has hardly ever solved any such problems.

With regards to the war and instability being witnessed in areas of the Middle East, which is also a key factor responsible for the existing refugee crisis, Dalai Lama said that America’s forceful reaction to 9/11 led to several unintended consequences. He further added that a lot of money was invested in weapons and this could have been utilized for health and education instead.

The Dalai Lama requested for religious peace and harmony all over the world and said that faith is being projected as the reason for conflict. Everyone thinks that religion is the cause for trouble. But the reality is that, religion preaches tolerance, compassion, contentment and forgiveness.

He said that media should talk about harmony and love, rather than focusing only on division. The concept of splitting up of civilization is rather dangerous. He further added that the religion of Islam advocated love and not bloodshed or war.

The Dalai Lama also criticized “politics of suppression” led by China. He believes that it becomes difficult for the people to talk about their actual views.
