Pratt defends his church after Page questions their views on LGBTQ issues.

Actor Chris Pratt has defended Zoe Church in Los Angeles which he attends with his fiancé, Katherine Schwarzenegger, after actress Ellen Page termed it “infamously anti-LGBTQ.” In his Instagram post, the Guardians of the Galaxy star termed such a statement as far from the truth. He reiterated that his church has open doors to everyone. Page, who came out as a lesbian in 2014, asked as to why media outlets did not mention the church’s views concerning LGBTQ issues.

The incident started with Pratt appeared on an episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert when Pratt spoke about Zoe Church. The actor said his pastor, Chad Veach, inspired him to do the Daniel Fast. This is a diet inspired by the eating habits of Biblical figures like Daniel and his three close friends, Azaria, Hanania, and Mishael. The diet was followed by the four to protest against the Persian King Nebuchadnezzar in Book of Daniel. Ellen Page reacted through social media soon after the show, saying Pratt's church is noticeably anti-LGBTQ and perhaps that subject should be discussed as well. The social media post went viral. Page again broached the topic in a second tweet, stating that being anti-LGBTQ is wrong from any angle and there is no room for debate.

Chad Veach, Pratt's pastor, was once profiled by The New York Times in 2018. The pastor was seen to be extremely cautious when it came to social issues during the interview. Veach did not mention his views on hot button issues like abortion or President Donald Trump. According to the Zoe church pastor, his church is inspired by yet another celebrity-soaked church, the Hillsong Church. The latter does clearly state its intention of not supporting a gay lifestyle. It also cited this reason as to why the Hillsong Church does not have actively gay persons in leadership positions, either paid or unpaid.

When it came to Pratt, he wrote that the Zoe Church welcomed him into its fold in 2017, the year he got divorced from Anna Faris. This, he wrote, happened even as Biblical teachings preach against marriage separation. He was grateful for Zoe Church to support him at this juncture in his life.
