Near Death Experience

After being Pronounced Dead Twice, A Man Shares His Experience with the Afterlife

Sometimes you only live thrice. A Reddit user shares his experiences in death in an AMA after being brought back to life twice.

A man shared his experiences dying twice and being brought back to life by modern medical practices on a Reddit AMA. According to Reddit user r00tdude, death is a blank experience. “I had no idea, it was just black emptiness. No thoughts, no consciousness, nothing.” His experiences with death felt a lot like taking a dreamless nap. He could tell that time had passed, but the experience of death was just a black nothingness. In fact, he did not realize he had died. There was no sensation of dying, and he probably would not have known he died if the doctors hadn’t told him.

On the Afterlife and Religion

As far as his personal religious beliefs, r00tdude has always considered himself an atheist. That being said, he had also held onto a little hope that he was wrong. However, after experiencing nothingness in his deaths, he knows that there is no heaven or afterlife, at least for him. Being dead has not converted him to any other faith. While he feels his experiences helped to solidify his atheism, he does not feel the need to convert anyone else to those beliefs. “I believe that your belief is your belief. The only thing we can share is our own experiences and let people make up their own mind. People need to stop forcing their own beliefs onto others.

On Others’ Experiences with Death

This is far from being the only report on death or near death experiences. Many others have reported sensations of an afterlife, some going so far as to claim they saw heaven. While these reports may disagree with r00tdude’s experiences, he does not deny what they saw and felt. “I think that in their cases, their minds were still active. What they experienced was just a sort of dream.”

On What Death Means to Him

When he first learned that he had died, he had an almost joking response, but after the morphine wore a way a little more began to let the seriousness of his mortality to sink in. After some reflection, even though he has died twice now, he is comfortable with the nothingness after death. He does not fear his own mortality. He even made a fan video of The Dark Knight while recovering from his accident as a way to cope with and portray his experiences.

Some have been intimidated, learning about this man’s blank experience, but he never wanted to frighten anyone when he started his AMA. Instead “the whole point of this was to try to make people understand that death is nothing to fear!
