The widespread instances of “fake news,” coupled with privacy scandals, have led to a decrease of trust in tech companies.

The data gathered from a survey conducted by Pew Research Center also shows 33 percent of people now hold negative views on the impact that technology companies are having on America.

There have been other surveys conducted by Pew Research Center, which have revealed many criticisms that the public has about social media companies and technology companies. In 2018, 55 percent of Americans believed that too much power, as well as influence, is being held by tech companies. Seventy-two percent of Americans believe social media companies are censoring political views which are considered questionable.

Another survey conducted in 2019 revealed that Americans feel social media companies should be responsible when it comes to removing offensive material from their respective platforms. However, Americans aren’t very confident that social media companies can decide on what’s offensive and what isn’t.

The new survey by Pew Research Center found churches and other religious organizations in the United States are having a less positive effect and are becoming more partisan. In 2017, 59 percent of Americans believed that religious organizations are positively affecting what’s happening in the United States. This number has dropped to 52 percent.

The views of Democrats and Republicans have never been more diverse about how large corporations and banks affect America. The amount of Republicans who believe that financial institutions, as well as banks, are a positive force in the United States is half. On the other hand, 27 percent of Democrats share this viewpoint.

As you can see, Americans are experiencing a shift in beliefs. The change in beliefs can be attributed to how fast-paced the world is today. More research is needed to determine a cause and effect relationship that American opinion is influenced. By finding out what causes shifts in a person’s attitude, everyone will be in a much better position to avoid shifts to negative attitudes.
