Record high 22% believe in evolution
A June 3-16 Gallup poll has revealed that a large chunk of United States adults, 40 percent of them, believe in the creationist view[/tweetit] of the origins of human beings. They believe that they were created in their present form by God within the last 10,000 years.

Thirty-three percent of Americans believe that humans have evolved with God’s guidance over millions of years, while 22 percent believe that humans have evolved without God’s guidance.
The last reading was conducted in 2017. The 2019 reading has shown that not much has changed since 2017. The 22 percent of Americans who believe that humans have evolved without the guidance of God over millions of years is a record high which dates back to 1982.
There have been as few as 38 percent of Americans and as many as 47 percent of Americans who believe with the creationist theory of the origin of human beings when looking at Gallup’s 37-year trend. In the same vein, the number of adults in the United States who believe that human beings have developed due to a combination of God and evolution over the same time is between 31 percent and 40 percent.
It comes as no surprise that Americans base their views on creationism and evolution on how they identify with religion, their attendance to church, and even their level of education.
The data reveals that 56 percent of Protestants as well as people who go to church at least a single time a week believe God created humans in their present state. Fifty-nine percent who aren’t religious have said they believe there wasn’t any intervention from God and that humans evolved to their current state on their own.

The data also shows that people without a college degree are more likely to believe in creationism, while people with a college degree are more likely to side with the evolution. However, there are more adults with a college degree who have revealed that they believe that God’s hand influenced evolution than the opposite.
