Unknown Secret Serum Used to Treat American Christian Missionaries with Deadly Ebola Virus

Ebola Victims

Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol have been treated with unknown secret serum to fight Ebola virus are reported to be improving.

The outbreak of the deadly Ebola Virus has caused widespread panic in Liberia and other nations along the west of Africa. With the deaths numbering over one thousand and more cases being constantly reported, it appears that the situation is beginning to get out of hand. Unfortunately, even the individuals who have been dispatched to care for the victims of this virus are suffering from its effects. Two individuals from Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian relief organization, have now fallen ill with Ebola, prompting many to ask for prayers on their behalf.

The secret serum, called ZMapp, was created by a company in San Diego, CA. The Washington Post is reporting this is the first time the drug has been tested on humans. It is not known whether the serum simply stopped the progression of the virus, or whether it actually “saved their lives.”

The Samaritan’s Purse Organization

Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol, the two volunteers who have contracted Ebola, are both members of the Samaritan’s Purse Charity Organization. This is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization that is dedicated to helping individuals in countries that have suffered from poverty, war, and natural disasters. They have dispatched to Liberia, the nation most affected by Ebola so far, in hopes of providing medical relief to the people. They have expressed deep sorrow for Brantly and Writebol, and have asked everyone in the organization for prayers. Currently, both are being transported to the United States for treatment.

The Dangers Posed By Ebola

The Ebola virus was first discovered in 1976 and has been affecting the west coast of Africa since, killing over 2,000 people in 32 years. It is a hemorrhagic fever which causes massive internal bleeding which results in death in 60 to 90 percent of all cases. With such a grim prognosis, this latest outbreak has caused a great deal of concern that it may spread and have a massive death toll.

Currently, the virus has been limited to Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea where it has resulted in thousands of cases. The officials in these nations are trying to limit the spread of the disease through quarantine measures, but many worry that it will continue to be spread via animals or other contaminated fluids.

With the two missionaries being transported back to the United States for treatment, there has been a great deal of talk about the potential for the virus to spread in the U.S. However, the state government and the doctors that they have appointed to treat the individuals have insisted that the public faces no danger of Ebola Virus spreading throughout America. With the initial outbreak only weeks old, many continue to wonder whether this virus is dwindling or will continue to spread; something only time can tell.
