John Travolta Opens Up on “Beautiful” Experience with Scientology, Will Not Watch ‘Going Clear’

John Travolta Going Clear

Actor John Travolta gave an interview about his life as a Scientologist and calls out “disgruntled” former Scientologists in Going Clear.

Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief debuted on March 29, shining an accusatory light on the Church of Scientology. It has been making a variety of claims, renewing the previous scrutiny of the church. It calls on a number of claims made by Lawrence Wright’s book, such as blackmail with the members’ confessions and physical abuse.

It called for Tom Cruise and John Travolta, two of Scientology’s most well-known celebrities, to speak about their experiences. Travolta opened up in a telephone interview on Monday to share what he had to say and discuss his upcoming premiere for The Forger.

Going Clear

Travolta, 61, said that he has never experienced anything like what the hearsay is claiming. Having been with the church for the past 40 years, he said that “I really don’t have anything to say that would shed light on (a documentary) so decidedly negative.” He thinks that Going Clear is merely a product of “people who were disgruntled with their experiences” with the church, but he’s found the church to be nothing but brilliant. “I’ve been through storms that were insurmountable, and (Scientology has) been so beautiful for me, that I can’t even imagine attacking it.” In 2009, when the death of Jett, his son, rocked his world, the church provided their support. “Oh, my god, I wouldn’t have made it,” he said, not without the church’s assistance.

He went on to say that he has used the church to provide help to “so many people through hard times. Loss of children, loved ones, physical illnesses. Through many tough, tough life situations, I’ve used technology to support them and help them. It’s always worked. So why would I even approach a negative perspective? That would be a crime to me, personally, to do that.”

The Forger

On April 18, Travolta will be attending the premiere for his new film, The Forger. He’ll appear at the Capitol Theatre, in Clearwater. The event held is a fundraiser that will be donating the raised funds to Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts.
