Nicky’s Family, A Documentary on a Heroic Story at the time of the Holocaust, Premieres on Scientology Network Friday

Nicky's Family Documentary

Nicky Winton saved the lives of more than 600 children who were destined for concentration camps.

In a society where anti-Semitism is on the rise, stories about the Holocaust and Nazi occupation are more relevant than ever. Against this socio-cultural backdrop, Scientology Network’s Documentary Showcase, a weekly series that provides an avenue for independent filmmakers to show their work on social, cultural and environmental issues plaguing the world today, presents Nicky’s Family, premiering on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 8pm. According to Scientology Network, Nicky’s Family is “the true and untold story of one man’s secret rescue of hundreds of children from the hands of the Nazis.”

The focus of the documentary is Sir Nicholas “Nicky” Winton, who saved the lives of more than 600 children who were destined for concentration camps in the eve of World War II in the year 1939. This heroic act, also called Kindertransport, earned him the nickname “Britain’s Schindler,” and for a good reason: he got the children out of Czechoslovakia, across Germany, and into Great Britain.

Interestingly, nobody knew about the story for nearly 50 years – Winton did not divulge it to anybody, not even his own wife. His story was made known to the public in 1988 when BBC aired a show featuring Winton being surprised and reunited with 100 adults who were a part of the group of 600 who he had rescued. The documentary is the handiwork of director Matej Mináč, who captured the heart of the story on film before Nicky passed away at 106.

The film features reenactments of the dramatic events, archival footage, and heartfelt conversations with those Winton rescued, now adults with a story to tell about the hero who impacted their lives forever.

Matej Mináč is an Emmy Award-winning director who has also received the Best Documentary from the Montreal World Film Festival for Nicky’s Family, among other awards. He has also released Through the Eyes of the Photographer, which is about his mother, a photographer who survived the Holocaust.

Scientology Network debuted on March 12, 2018 and can be streamed at Scientology.tv and is available through satellite television, mobile apps and via the Roku, Amazon Fire and Apple TV platforms. It is broadcast from Scientology Media Productions in Los Angeles.
