Rap-god Snoop Dogg now announces decision to come out with a Gospel album, after previous associations with Nation of Islam and Rastafarianism.

The latest entrant to the Gospel music scene may be one of the most unexpected of artists – Snoop Dogg.[/tweetit] The 45-year-old rapper revealed that gospel music was always in his heart, but he never actually got to do an album because he was always busy doing “gangsta business or doing this or doing that.”

Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr., commonly known as Snoop Dogg, revealed he has already begun working on a gospel album. He is planning to collaborate with other veteran singers for this project, such as Faith Evans, Charlie Wilson and Jeffrey Osborne. The rapper also said all the singers he has spoken with have shown an interest in helping him create the album.

Snoop Dogg is best known for having spearheaded the gangster rap movement back in the ‘90s. Now that he has successfully established himself in the industry, the rapper feels that it is finally time to give in to his internal call and do the album.

Signs of his leanings towards spirituality were picked up by fans much earlier. He had remixed Pastor Shirley Caesar's 1988 hit gospel song, “Hold My Mule”, renaming his version the “U Name It Holiday Anthem“. He used Shirley’s "I got beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes" to get people interested. Caesar herself was very impressed and happy with the rap version. In fact, the 78-year-old pastor even made the rap version available on her YouTube channel. Her church has also officially confirmed his version as one that is acceptable. She publicly thanked him for the version that he produced, calling it a “marvelous job.” "We're the gift that keeps on giving praise God we keep on living. BC what you want me to say bow your heads for a second take a moment to pray,” Snoop Dogg’s version goes.

He has also made religious and biblical references in his raps. Fans who have been paying very close attention to the singer’s work would have seen this decision coming and may not be surprised.
